Word count 6-25-17 : The pace continues to accelerate…

vintage horizontal photo of a man's handwriting into a notebook using a fountain pen Just finished up my writing session and I have to say. I'm really getting excited about how well this experiment is going. Enough so that I realized I need to start tracking another metric. How long I'm actually writing for. With my ADHD, I'm still a bit haphazard when it comes to my actual start time of my writing session. I fiddle around and surf the web until I realize I've wasted too much time and buckle down to bang out some words. So I'm not 100% sure how long I'm actually writing for, but what I can say is, if I'm not interrupted, my word counts continue to rise by the end of my writing session, which is normally 7 am, although sometimes I might go to 8 am if I'm on a roll.

Since I haven't been actually tracking my start time, I can't determine if I'm writing faster, or if I'm just somehow managing to incrementally start earlier. Without knowing that, I don't know what to focus on to continue to increase how much I'm getting down. For this writing session, I want to say I started at 5 am. If I'm correct, then I was flying across the keys. I was excited to find out where the story was actually going since I'm at the point in the book where I'm actually pantsing the content.

That brings to mind another metric I'll need to track on the next book. I don't have any evidence to back it up right now, but I feel I write faster while pantsing compared to how fast I go while writing the parts I created an outline for. I know I need to do the half outline so I keep some of the info consistent throughout the series, but I'm suspecting it's actually slowing me down to a degree. Guess I'll find out when I move on to book three of the series since I'm going to start on that as soon as I finish this first draft of book two, which I can pretty confidently state at this point that I've reached the halfway point.

Anyway, without further adieu, the stats:

word count for today: 2,659

word count total for the project: 33,023

So yes, with my uninterrupted pace, I wrote nearly another thousand words. What that means to me is that I'm slowly approaching my daily word count goal of 5k words a day. Assuming I can get myself to buckle down and do the revisions/editing, There's no reason why I can't release a book a month if I can keep that pace, assuming I can find beta readers to help me with the revisioning process, helping me spot stuff that needs to be removed, clarified, or added, along with the usual typos and grammar stuff. But that's for another day. Right now, it's time to wind down and go to bed. I have a long day ahead of me, filled with replacing headlights, draining/cleaning a hot water heater and replacing an element, and other miscellaneous stuff. Fun fun...
